If you had an email account through Verizon internet, even going all the way back to when they were still Bell Atlantic - you are now stuck with AOL mail servers if you want to keep that decades old email address. (I am here).

I don't know what the deal included when Verizon handed the addresses to AOL, but I hope it has guarantees of continuation regardless of which shady owner controls it.

The term is desensitize. If you are exposed to enough enshitification it becomes normal:

asking for a password every ten minutes.
seeing an advertisement every ten seconds.
a feature being removed every week.
a pop-up asking you to enable some dumb-ass feature (for the 10th time) in the middle of text entry.
a web page still loading even though it looks done and resetting the search box in the middle of entering a search term.
lack of buttons to control basic safety features on your new car.
walking through a store and everything is in locked cages because we tolerate criminals now.

Do you read tea leaves? Because if you did you would notice automated (bots) accessing everything relentlessly is how the internet becomes a whitelist-only adventure.

Remember that saying about don't allow a new install of an old version of Windows on the internet or it will become infected within minutes? Imagine that but trying to start a website on the internet will soon be overwhelmed by an invasion of anonymous bots. Eventually search engines will be the only way to even know a website exists, and to read any of the content you will need to make an account for every damned one.

That smelly Bullshit is the internet wanting to go down the toilet, but won't fit due to the pure size of the bot infestation.
